Interview With Tifa DeLeone by Cary International Pinup Phenomenom Tifa DeLeone. Classic pinup has become a huge phenomena lately, what about it first captured your interest? It sure has! I’ve always had a thing for pinups and old movie stars and in the beginning of this decade I was flipping through a catalogue and noticed some vintage style lingerie on a pinup like model that caught my eye. I later ordered it and started collecting more vintage stuff, everything from shoes to furniture. When it comes to pinups it’s the beautiful, cheeky side that really gets me. It can be humorous or vampy but always classy.
What do you think about pinup becoming part of the mainstream culture? I guess everything has two sides! The worst part is that in early 2000 I could walk in to a thrift shop an buy a vintage girdle for $2 now people sell them from everything from $10-60! Seriously though, I love seeing more people dressing up the part even if it’s only on weekends or once in a while, I guess everyone pretty much love pinups right? Haha! Today there is always a new girl, a new retro designer, a new burlesque club. I would be an idiot to complain about it! Some people may think it loses it charm and I can understand that, but over all I think it’s positive! The mainstream industry really woke up thanks to Dita. Tons of people have discovered the wonderful music and style of the 50’s and that can’t be bad! I had to get myself to London to experience burlesque live a few years back, now even little ol’ Sweden have some great clubs and performers! Other pinups inspire me every day and seeing a talented new face is great! Within a year or so I guess the people who just got into it because it’s a bit trendy will have found something new to try on!
What is it that excites you about pinup modeling? I love being creative and to express myself! I’m just so comfortable doing pinup modeling, it really suits my personality! I have a great time with other shoots as well but when doing pinup it just extra fun!
Are there any other creative mediums you work in? Many people ask me if I’m a burlesque dancer, I might have the moves but I’m not a performer… yet! I’ve been asked to perform but not done it at this point. We will see in the future! I have a thing for head and hair pieces and do many things for myself and for photoshoots. I’ve started up doing some stuff that I will eventually start selling, keep your eyes open! I also spend some time writing my blog, it’s all in Swedish but it focus on the 20’s- 50’s and I update it a few times a day. I’m also a model for Nocturnal Models, it’s an agency with models, stylist, performers and photographers, it’s inspiring to be a part of something like that, creative minds all together – that can’t go wrong!
What are your favorite types of outfits to model in? Corsets, can’t get enough of them! They have a tendency to magically appear in many of my photoshoots haha! I love modeling the burlesque/showgirl style.
What are your least favorites? I don’t think I have a particular type of outfit I don’t like, as long as it fits my body type it works! I would never work with real fur or leather clothes since I’m an vegetarian.
What kind of music do you like? Will you hate me if I say everything? I guess it’s a boring answer but I do have a wide range of artists that I like. Since I recently started to take dance lessons in Charleston (20’s style of dance) and lindy hop I love music you can dance to! Ballads have never really been my thing!
What do you like to do for fun? Travel! I’m always going somewhere and to not have a planned trip is almost stressful to me! I’m leaving for Egypt tomorrow morning and later in April I’m going to the US for the first time for Viva Las Vegas and later a week in New York! I’m a bit girly girl so I can’t leave out that I love shopping, getting dressed up and go out and dance. I also love spending time with my friends and of course my other half: the boyfriend!
