Interview With Scarlet by Cary Scarlet: Pinup Model with the heart of a Gothic Princess. Classic pinup has become a huge phenomena lately, what about it first captured your interest? I agree that is has become a very big thing lately. I got into it when I was first introduced to Bettie Page. The first time I saw her and her work I was very impressed. Since then I have loved it. I love the wholesome side to it that goes hand in hand with the bad girl side. There is something so sexy about wearing form fitting clothes without showing a whole lot of skin.
What do you think about pinup becoming part of the mainstream culture? I think it's great that it's becoming much more popular. It's something worth embracing. Pinup is a very classy style. It's not raunchy or risque. It's clean cut and most pictures feature a big beautiful smile on the model's face. There is nothing wrong with girls trying to imitate the style. I would prefer that over the 80s look that has gone on for so long now.
What is it that excites you about pinup modeling? I love the femininity of it. I love the mischievousness. I love when you get your latest shoot's pictures and you can be proud of them. I love dressing pretty and putting on my best shade of red lipstick. I also appreciate that to do a pinup shoot, you need to have real feminine curves. This style has no room for the starved model look.
Are there any other creative mediums you work in?
Recently I've done a few shoots with special FX makeup on. I am also a huge fan of tattoos and I am currently the NJ Chapter Vice President of the Gypsy Queens. The Gypsy Queens are tattooed promotional models. We have booths at tattoo conventions and set up pageants for anyone to enter in. We do charity work. And the best part is that our motto is "Tats not Tits."
What are your favorite types of outfits to model in? Some of my favorites are shooting in pin up dresses and pumps, wearing fishnets, and huge platform boots.
What are your least favorites? I'm not a fan of the glamor side of modeling. I haven't done any shoots like that. I have far too many tattoos to get into that, which is entirely fine with me. I don't really appreciate the skimpy club looks either.
What kind of music do you like? I love all kinds of music. One minute I'll listen to VNV Nation and the next I'll being rocking out to My Chemical Romance. I will only dance to industrial/techno songs though. Something about that music really gets me moving.
What do you like to do for fun? Believe it or not, I love to go to a gothic club and dance my heart out. I'm really a closet gothic princess at heart. As cute and nice as my pinup modeling is, I love to dress up in black. I am beginning to become quite the baker. I love making cakes and cookies. It's fun and yummy!
