Interview With Queen April
Mark Your Calendars For Queen April
by Cary
Classic Burlesque has become a huge phenomena lately, what about it first captured your interest?
I think more than anything I was attracted to the storytelling element of burlesque. I believe there is a general misconception that burlesque is just a pretty girl stripping off her clothes as she dances, but there is so much more to it than that. It's more challenging than you might think to turn a striptease into a story. The bare body is not the purpose of the story, but more a tool to state the purpose. The actress in me finds this very appealing.
What kind of performance do you put on?
I'm into fetish and BDSM and slapstick comedy, so my acts have those elements incorporated into them. I like to show all sides of my personality whenever I can in my performances. I'm a huge piece of cheese on toast, giggly and silly, and I love that I can mix in the comedy along with the sexiness.
At what kind of events do you perform?
Burlesque festivals, fetish events, charity events, pretty much any event that will have me! lol
What's it like performing all over and experiencing the different scenes?
It's exciting! I like meeting new people and witnessing the different reactions to my performances. I also love to travel. It's not always rainbows and peach pie, especially when you're tired and sore and still have another three hours to go in your day, but even then it ain't so bad.
Where is your favorite place to perform?
Right here in my home base of Asheville, NC. We have the most encouraging people here; a city full of artists and performers who are so very supportive of each other.
Has anything crazy ever happened at a show?
I live in Asheville. Crazy is relative, lol.
How did you become interested in fetish/BDSM?
I've been into this lifestyle so long I really can't remember where it all started. As a teenager, I developed a strong interest in alternative music and fashion. (My mother will argue that my proclivity for dominance developed at a much earlier age, lol.) From there I moved into exploring alternative lifestyles and was fascinated with bondage and discipline. I became active in a lifestyle community and the rest, as they say, is history.
What excites you about fetish modeling?
The shoes I get to wear.
Do you enjoy fetishism/BDSM play in your personal life, and if so what are you into?
I most certainly do, but that's all you get. I'm not telling you all of my secrets... ;)
Are there any fetishes that you don't find appealing?
Smoking and bodily excretions. Blech!
Are there any other creative mediums you work in?
I'm a DJ.
What kind of music do you like?
I love music, any kind of music, but I'm a child of the 80's for sure!
What do you like to do for fun?
Play video games with my kids, travel, and dance at a great nightclub. Simple pleasures...
