The Photography Of FTKL
The Photography Of FTKL
What inspired you to pick up a camera?
The realization that no other photographer was going to be able to bring my imagination to life like I would ... even though I knew very little about photography, at the time. I look at things the way a comic illustrator does, because that's what my work is; a crazy, campy fetish comic, come to life.
What particular challenges do you face with erotic photography as opposed to other genres?
I really don't shoot other genres. OK, some of my images make for good glamour and pinup shots, but to me, they're all-inclusive of my fetish work. Most of my real challenges come from a model being excessively late, as I almost always do scripted, multi-girl shoots. Making me late is one thing, but if your lateness screws up another girl's schedule, that's not cool. Fortunately, I've learned to script and shoot on the fly!
Do you prefer to shoot with film or digital?
Digital. I'm a comic illustrator with a camera. I leave film to the real photographers.
How did you become interested in fetish/BDSM?
I've been into foot fetish, tickling, bondage, smoking, catfighting and other kinks for a loooong time. I blame comic books, Saturday morning cartoons and my dad's collection of 1950s pinups. Not that I'm complaining ...
Do you enjoy fetishism/BDSM play in your personal life, and if so what are you into?
Being a personal fetishist is part of the reason I became a photographer/producer. Foot fetish, tickling and bondage are my primary kinks. And I'm a giver, not a receiver, in case anyone's wondering.
Do you think pinup and fetish are becoming part of the mainstream culture?
Frankly, pinup and fetish have been part of mainstream culture for as long as they've been around. Each of them reflect upon the other. In the last 10 or 15 years, it seems to have become more en vogue in Western pop culture, but it's hardly a new development. It's more of a recurring trend.
Are there any other creative mediums you work in?
When I have the time (which is rare now), I'm an illustrator. Old school comic book-style, with real pencils, inks and brushes. I'm also a fight choreographer, which comes in handy for shooting catfights. Oh yes, I'm also a Kung Fu instructor. Anyone who thinks that learning/teaching centuries-old fighting techniques DOESN'T require creativity, is smokin' some good shit.
What kind of music do you like?
Pretty much anything but country. Rock, Gothic/Industrial, Jazz (the real stuff, not that "smooth Jazz" crap), Blues, Classical and Electronica are all good with me.
What do you like to do for fun?
What? You mean there's more to life than tying women up and tickling them? Gasp! Well, aside from being an avid martial artist, I'm a comic book, sci-fi/fantasy/horror movie geek. I also fence (as in sword fighting) and I'm a writer.
