Interview With Jill Liebisch
Fantasy & Fairytale Model Jill Liebisch
by Cary
How did you get started modeling?
When I was 17, a photographer from my hometown came into a library where I used to work and asked if I would mind shooting with her for a large advertisement that she wanted to display in her studio. Those were my first professional images, up until then all I had were pictures taken with lower-end digital cameras. After that, a friend of mine started up her own business. She is now known by Gas Oven-she started learning and experimenting with me and I was able to build a portfolio.
What excites you about modeling?
I love playing dress up. It’s so crazy how a little makeup can change your whole persona. By modeling, I am able to create an image that represents diminutive bits of my inner self. In real life I’m just a normal person who goes to school and works just like everyone else, but during my free time I love to play pretend and masquerade as something a little more exciting.
I also love working with creative individuals-hairstylists, makeup artists, clothing designers. Without a lot of them, many of my images wouldn’t have been possible.
What are your favorite types of outfits to model in?
I’d have to say my style is more fantasy and fairytale based than anything. I love playing the princess, damsel, anything Victorian or old fashioned. I love vintage clothing and anything romantic in style. Fantasy is a huge infatuation of mine.
What are your least favorites?
So far I haven’t worn any clothing I haven’t liked. Now that I’ve shot so much, most photographers tend to trust my choice in clothing, so I pick everything I want to wear.
What kind of shoots would you like to work on in the future?
I would love to shoot some more unique images, things people have never seen before. I love anything crazy and bizarre, but beautiful at the same time.
Are there any other creative mediums you work in?
I play the piano, and have been doing so for the past 15 years. Along with playing the piano, I was in concert band for 7 years where I played percussion. With piano, I started at age 6, and took lessons for 10 years until I was 16. When I turned 16 I began giving piano lessons to young children as my first job. I taught on the beginner and intermediate levels, and I loved it. For the longest time I wanted to be a music instructor, but time tends to change your mind, so now I’ve decided I want to become an academic librarian and work in a university library. Music is still a huge part of my life. I still play all of the time.
What kind of music do you like?
I like to play classical music, but when it comes to the type of music I prefer to listen to, I am a true metalhead. Some of my favorite bands include: In Flames, Lamb of God, Eluveitie, Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquility, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, Shadows Fall and so many more. I listen to the stuff on the radio if I’m driving around, makes me feel cultured listening to what’s popular, but if you took a look at my iPod, you’d never see any Lady Gaga or whatever.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love hanging out with my friends, and boyfriend. I also love going to concerts to see my favorite bands. Many people wouldn’t peg me as a metalhead, but I enjoy surprising them. I also enjoy writing and college for the most part. I used to do the club thing a little bit, but that was short lived, I always have to get up early for work, and I value my sleep.
