Interview With Xtine

In addition to being a very cool person, Xtine is a Musician, DJ, Fetish Model and promoter of the amazing Absolution Party. She's great at everything!

What music first captured your ear and got you interested in music?

My parents used to listen to European and especially Scandinavian folk music all the time. Also Bob Dylan, The Kingston Trio, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and other 60s and 70s dark, folky music. I also listened to a lot of New Wave on the radio. Then when I got into high school, it was Metal that attracted my ear. I especially loved Celtic Frost for their occult elements and creativity, and Tom Warrior of CF has been one of my biggest influences.

Do you come from a background of training in the arts?

My grandmother was a textile designer by trade, but also had a great gift for drawing, painting and sewing. She was the only artistic person in my life, and I was so lucky to have her early influence. She taught me to draw from a young age and also took me to see animated movies like Fantasia, Snow White, etc which I loved. She also paid for a year of ballet school for me when I was 6 or 7, which was very important because it shaped my growing body. My parents themselves never invested into my artistic training and were against it. They didn't want to hear any noise in the house, so I developed the artistic skills that were silent- drawing, painting, making things with my hands. I also enrolled in gymnastics in high school, which I loved since I am a very physical person. Only when I got to college could I finally develop my Voice, choosing to minor in Classical Voice. I was lucky because University of Maryland has one of the best Opera schools in the country. I learned from some of the best teachers.

How did you start working with your current band?

I met my partner Anton when we joined the same coven. The coven broke up, but we decided to continue working together as a band, in order to bring our ideas about magick to life musically and in the ritual of performance. That's how Black Earth was born.

How did you become interested in fetish/BDSM?

When I first came to Manhattan, I was invited to perform at a Fetish club called Mother for their weekly Saturday night party. Each night would have a different theme, often Fetish, and I would be dressed in a different costume each time and then model, dance and perform what is called "method go-go" on a box in the main dance area. Sometimes the theme would be goth, other times sci-fi, and other times high Fetish such as Medical, Leather or Latex. In this way, I learned about each aspect of the Fetish world. I was also invited to model for Fetish clothing designers and participate in photo shoots and runway shows. I became one of the first Fetish Models as we know them today. I was heavily inspired by Bettie Page, because I liked her pinup style fetish photos.

Do you enjoy fetishism/BDSM play in your personal life, and if so what are you into?

I feel that even if you are a fetish model, your private life is private.

Are there any fetishes that you don't find appealing?

Anything to do with bodily fluids, and I also don't like electricity!

What excites you about fetish modeling?

The ability to devastate with just a look.

What kind of music do you like?

Metal, Goth and Industrial, and variations of these. But I am into a lot of other different music too- I'm very eclectic.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love camping and the outdoors. The woods in Upstate New York are especially beautiful to camp in, they remind me of Europe. I also love Tarot and reading and writing about the occult. And I love to travel to Finland which is where most of my family lives. I'm convinced that Scandinavia is the most beautiful place on Earth.
