Interview With Nadja Riot by Cary Cosplay, pinup, all around awesome model Nadja Riot. How did you get interested in anime? It started first with the movies Akira, Vampire Hunter D etc back when I was still a teenager then I got into the series. I loved how the series differed from American style cartoons as the episodes linked together kinda like an animated soap opera. There was so much more character development and interesting plots that got me so engrossed and entangled with the stories. I found myself getting more into anime than regular live action TV shows because for the most part they (live action etc) dealt with real people real issues and I mean come on, you work all day go to school or what have you and the last thing you want to watch is more people being stupid people. I liked to escape to somewhere else where there was magic, mystery and things you didn't see everyday and this is part of the reason also why I got so into games also.
What was the progression that led to you dressing up as the characters? Honestly, when I started going to conventions. I saw so much BAD cosplay I was like woah come on, Hell even I could do this better and I don't know how to sew for shit! Then it started LOL and it actually became fun! I don't do it much at conventions etc anymore because it kinda hinders my enjoyment of my surroundings because people always want pictures etc and I don't much like being the center of attention, I am actually quite shy in person.
Who is your favorite character to dress as? I don't have a "favorite" character really but I love dressing up as women that kick ass. I am not all about the cute quiet cat girl type but the one that can bring anyone to their knees either by violence or by cunning/evil feminine wiles ^_^.
You also do some pin up modeling, how do the two genres compare? Hmmm Not too sure really. I never did the Cosplay as a part of modeling it was more for fun even though I did end up in a magazine for it. Actually even pin up modeling was fun for me, I enjoyed dressing up. I don't really like to think of things in terms of Genres, I think about it as hmm do I like doing this, is it fun for me?
Do you find that these types of modeling cross over with the Fetish/BDSM scene? Yes, they do. Anything nowadays can be considered a fetish. Also with the cosplay aspect there are lots of characters that have BDSM tones and if cosplayed correctly could more than be considered Fetish/BDSM.
Do you think pinup and fetish are becoming part of the mainstream culture? It seems everything that once was not is now mainstream in one way or another. Now things seem to be more widely accepted within reason. Things I got made fun of in high school for being into people are bragging about now on their internet profiles like it makes them cool. I just "feh " to myself and go about my business. I mean in a way its good things become mainstream because you are not so ridiculed by being interested in it or can find things easier in stores etc but then you also have to deal with a bunch of uneducated idiots that read about something on the internet and now think they can try it, do it and are now some kind of master with it and you just want to slap them upside the head, or maybe that is just me :p
What kind of music do you like? I like pretty much everything except rap and country. I played the Flute and Piano for many years growing up so I have an appreciation for classical music and enjoy listening to it. Some bands I do favor are Bad Religion, Tori Amos, NIN, Rise Against, Social Distortion, Dir en Grey, 12012, Nightmare, Type O Negative, Tool and a few others.
What do you like to do for fun? Video Games and Video Games :p I also enjoy quiet time and reading, I do that quite frequently.Watching anime and bad horror movies (anything zombie related). And last and most importantly preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse. :p
