Interview With Morgaine La Chatte by Cary Morgaine La Chatte gives us a peek into her process of designing amazing corsetes. How did you get started with your clothing line? I started in July 2007 after my graduation in fashion design. In the meantime I also worked for film and photo productions. I had always been fascinated by corsets, s I started sewing them by myself some years ago. Because standard corsets often haven´t a good fit and a lot of people are looking for custom corsets, I started to sell mostly corsets under the Name “Morgaine La Chatte” What is it about Latex that interests you?
I like the way how different its appearance can be. It can be shiny or matte, transparent of thick. You can design very tight pieces, but also some which look like “normal” clothes made of conventional materials.
Have you designed for anyone famous? I made a corset for ELA a German gothic singer. You can see it in the video “Out of time” on her website www.ela4you.com.
I'm fascinated by the process that someone can see a flat sheet of material and somehow know how to turn it into clothing. Can you explain how that works?
At first I have something like an idea in my mind. Then I draw it make a pattern and I sew a sample out of similar but cheaper material. I control the fit and the general appearance of it. Often there have to be changes to make it perfect. Sometimes you need two or more samples, sometimes it just fits at the first time. Sometimes I just sew something and make the fit directly by draping and manipulating the material. At university I learned how to drape professionally and I often use books with antique techniques to inspire myself.
Fetish wear is popping up more and more in mainstream entertainment and everyday life, how do you feel about that? I don´t belong to the kind of people who claim on fetish wear only for herself or a special scene. I admire how famous fashion designers interpret fetish wear and for example work with materials like latex. Anyway I don´t believe that you can merchandise real fetishism. There are always individuals behind it and they are all different in her thoughts and wishes.
What would your advice be for someone new to the fetish scene and wearing your creations for the first time? You shouldn´t mind getting compliments ;-) just have fun, enjoy wearing it. There is nothing special to consider. You may reckon that you get perhaps more attention, but that belongs up to you and it's never only the consequence of the things you wear.
Do you enjoy fetishism/BDSM play in your personal life, and if so what are you into? I enjoy it in my personal life. I would describe me as a fashion fetishist at first and a Sadomasochist at the second. Aesthetics is very important to me.
Are there any other creative mediums you work in?
I started modeling in the year 2001 and with breaks I´m modeling till this day. Recently I started photographing to make my own product pictures and to realize my own ideas. I like being before the camera as well as behind.
What kind of music do you like?
I like the good old goth stuff like The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, London After Midnight, Incubus Succubus, but I´m open to nearly every kind and style off music. Whether it is industrial, electro, alternative and or austro pop.
What do you like to do for fun?
Whether I have the time I like to draw and to paint. I hope I can finish 2 or more elaborate pictures this year, besides my work as designer. I´d like to paint a certain person. She is model and has an absolutely supernatural appearance. I really like to catch it in a picture.
