Interview With Mistress Crow

by Cary

Mistress Crow is an amazing Tattoo Artist and Fetish Model. Being multi talented is indeed something to crow about! :)

How did you get started as a tattoo artist?

I was always into art in general, and always had a pencil in my hand. As a teenager, being into the metal and gothic scene, I discovered tattoos and decided to give myself my first tattoo with needle and Indian ink since I wasn't legally old enough to get one. It started an addiction for me (or shall I say fetish?), an addiction to self expression, being a permanent living piece of art, to the pain, and the possibility of leaving a mark on someone for the rest of their lives. At 16 I started hanging around the local tattoo shop and bringing my art portfolio around and finally got an apprenticeship. I haven't stopped since.

Have you tattooed anyone famous?

I haven't tattooed anyone world famous, but I have tattooed several people in local metal bands and local ''celebrities''.

Have you ever had anyone completely freak out during the tattooing process?

Absolutely! I've had people cry, pee themselves, shit themselves, puke and pass out. But it's usually a rare occasion. Most people handle being tattooed just fine.

Conversely, has anyone ever enjoyed the needle a little too much?

Yes (myself included). They're usually quite discrete about it but you can tell that some people keep coming back for more not just for the artwork but for a release through the pain.

Do you think it's possible that tattoos have become too popular and lost some of their cache?

Only if you let them. Obviously the popularity of tattoos in tattoo design inspired clothing and reality shows are good for business because every poseur in the world wants one, but when you look hard enough the true tattoo enthusiasts with the real artwork on their skin stand out. And that the media and trends cannot take away from people like me.

What advice would you give to someone contemplating their first tattoo?

First step is to research the artist them self. I can't even count how many people's first tattoo I've had to cover or fix because they spontaneously got it at a tattoo party in someone's basement or walked into a shop drunk and picked it off a flash rack. Don't settle for just anyone doing your tattoo-be sure they're qualified. And don't pick a random design. Pick something that you know will always reflect who you are or what your passionate about. Don't turn a tattoo into a one night stand!

How did you become interested in fetish/BDSM?

It kind of just came to me, I like feeling free and unrestricted ;-) I like the idea of being able to go with my passions-just as an example, if I feel like putting on a costume and pretending to be a pirate in bed I can, or if I want to go even further and accelerate some senses that aren't normally used, like the fine line between pleasure and pain, I can do that to! It's a freedom that everyone should be able to tap into whenever they want.

Do you enjoy fetishism/BDSM play in your personal life, and if so what are you into?

Well, handcuffs are definitely played out-creativity is a must! And getting the shy one's to open up is always rewarding. I'm pretty open minded and I'll try anything once, and if I don't like it I just won't do it again. But I'm always looking for new things to try...any suggestions?

Are there any fetishes that you don't find appealing?

Nothing really is unappealing to me as long as no one is unwilling or getting hurt (too much). But there was this time where I was asked by a photographer if they could take pictures of me dressed as a dominatrix while stomping on live crickets and other types of insects bare foot. That was just disgusting!

Do you think pinup and fetish are becoming part of the mainstream culture?

I definitely feel that it's not in the closet as much as it used to be. On one end this is a good thing for the people who have always been into it can finally express themselves a bit more freely, But on the other end, there's always the people who ruin it for the others. The pinup look is a unique look and style that not just anybody can pull it off-you can make a dog look like a wolf, but the rest of the pack will know the truth.

What kind of music do you like?

METAL! The heavier the better-death metal, black metal, thrash metal-if I can bang my head to it it works for me!

What do you like to do for fun?

I love my job and it's always fun for me-and contrary to popular belief it's not just because I get to hurt people (but then again I didn't say it wasn't the reason), going to shows, modeling, and I'm working on a book-a compilation of the terrifying and the twisted.
