Interview With Michele Madden by Cary Very cool, fun and beautiful Musician and Fetish Model Michelle Madden. What music first captured your ear and got you interested in music? I guess the stuff that I grew up on and still love. I tend to go from Fleetwood Mac to Slayer.
Love opera. Big Grindcore fan as well. Sounds like I should be on heavy medication huh? Its like Lester Bangs once said about the great stuff giving your heart a hard on and that sums it all up dontcha think? My list rolls on forever… Lynyard Skynard, Pod People, The Stooges, Nunchukka Superfly, Gram Parsons, Stevie Wonder, Type O Negative, The Nuganhand Bank….Blah Blah Blah!
Do you come from a background of training in the arts? Oh brother! You have got to be kidding me! I come from a long line of white trash and was kicked out of school in the 8th grade (suspected arson fact fans). So that’s an elephant sized “no” on the arts background. My adolescence was naught but a bad Springsteen song. I knew that I was dead if I stayed in Palookaville so in the fine tradition of most small town losers I hit the road to recreation and red lights. And here I am.
How did you start working with your current band? Gene Hogan [Strapping Young Lad, Death, Dethklok] has been one of my best friends for years. We met when my old band supported SYL in Australia years ago. So I got a call out of the blue to join Meldrum with him and the beautiful and much missed Michelle Meldrum. I jumped and I think that it was the best move that I could have made. The music is great and I love living in Long Beach half the year.
Do you prefer playing live or recording? Live all the way! I am not a studio dog and although it was better the last time around recording with Rob Shallcross (aka: Professor Chicken, friend to the special.) in Vancouver, it never gets all that much better or easier for me. But live? That is where it’s at!
Where is your favorite place to perform? I have played in so many cool places it’s hard to pick just one. Did some great shows in Europe though. It’s WHO I get to play with more so than where that makes it killer for me. I am such a huge fan of my homegrown peers so getting to play with bands such as Bloodduster, The Hard Ons, Bug Girl and Pod People keeps me happy with a hand down my pants more often than not. In front of the camera is always a good time. I should have just said “In the bedroom” right?
Has anything crazy ever happened at a show? Lots of blood. I have terrible eyesight so I usually end up damaging myself. That mixed with really intense fans. Meeting fans that have gone and got my signature tattooed on is always a headfuck. I have people wanting to buy my underwear a real lot…..
What excites you about fetish modeling? The control. Both visually and sexually. The control that you exercise in the image and in its release. Its powerful stuff to be putting out there. I tend to work exclusively with three photographers at this point. Lilli Whitetiger and Lee ‘Fish” Madden while in Australia and Lezil Rubin in Long Beach CA. I am really enjoying building the trust that I have with the three of them and am getting some killer work done I am a huge fan of Frank Franzettas women, of Stan Lee’s babes. I knew at a very young that I was never going to be normal looking, that cute was not an option. I stand at 6”3 in bare feet! I am an Amazon! I think that you work with what you have. Most of my fans are as geeky as I am and like the fact that I am like a comic book woman. They are so supportive. I am one lucky broad.
Are there any other creative mediums you work in? I am a writer and a TV host for Rock Alarm Europe. Working on publishing my 1st book this year and also developing a new TV show between here and Japan.
What do you like to do for fun? Play my bass, watch porn, train, get tattooed, read books about the Vietnam war, plot for world domination, riverboat gambling. You know the usual.
