Interview With Melody Sweets

What music first captured your ear and got you interested in music?
There are so many artists to credit! Nina Simone, Bob Marley, Siouxie & the Banshees, just to name a few... the list goes on and on but, I guess the first introduction to music was through my family. My father's side of the family were all musicians. My Great Grandparents met in a band in high school and played together & stayed together until they were in their late 90's. My Grandmother was a singer & my my dad was a drummer and had a music room set up in our house. When I was about 6 years old I can remember him blasting artists like The Rolling Stones, Genesis, ACDC, etc.. and walk around with his drum sticks playing drums on anything in his path... including my head!
Do you come from a background of training in the arts?
No. I would put on shows for family and friends while growing up. I'd make the girls in my neighborhood perform choreographed dance moves while I would sing Madonna or Salt n Pepa... HA! How funny now that I'm thinking about it. I would sing constantly. I always thought that I had an interesting voice ... not pretty, just different.
How did you start working with your current band?
Well, Melody Sweets was 'born' when my band GOODFINGER stopped playing live shows for a while to concentrate on recording our debut album, KILLING WITH KINDNESS. (which has just been released!) I really was missing the stage so I wrote a couple of songs that I could take my clothes off to and the rest is herstory! I'm having a great time with the burlesque community and am just letting it take me where ever is wants to go. The two worlds (Melody Sweets & GOODFINGER) are colliding more and more these days.
Goodfinger is having their official CD release party at The Bowery Electric on May 14th! Doors are at 9:00PM with open Vodka bar til 10PM! We hit the stage at 11PM. We've got some really special guests including MsTickle, Stormy Leather & more!

Do you prefer playing live or recording?
If I could, I'd perform with a live band ALWAYS! It's a very powerful feeling when you're up there beltin' it out and you have a stellar band backing you up.
Where is your favorite place to perform?
I love performing anywhere there's a LARGE audience of course! The more the merrier.
One of my favorite venue's is called The Box. They let me do almost whatever I want. It's definitely an NYC experience.
Has anything crazy ever happened at a show?
When doesn't something crazy happen at a show?! There was one time when I was performing 'Slice of Heaven' with Stormy Leather under my skirt and they played the wrong song!
Stormy was gripping my leg so hard I had claw marks for days! When I finally took my skirt off to reveal her I started 'slicing' her clothes off and well, it was... am I aloud to write about that in Fixe Magazine? :)
When we got off stage STING came up to me and told me what an amazing voice I had and that he was thoroughly entertained! I've never been star struck before but this time I couldn't speak!
What excites you about fetish modeling?
The shoes! Get me in a pair of the tallest, spikiest heals you can find and I'm a kid in a candy store!
Are there any other creative mediums you work in?
Burlesque, music & performing keep me pretty busy but when I get some time alone I'll sit there and paint for days...When my stage is finally built in my living room I'm going to invite over some beautiful models to pose for me. .. I can't wait!
What do you like to do for fun?
I love traveling... eating my way through whatever country I'm visiting. ... oh and parties. ... Did I mention the stage in my living room? :)
