Interview With Maiiah Serpent Dancer by Cary Tripple threat Maiiah is a belly dancer, burlesque performer and model. Any of those you don't want to watch her do? Didn't think so! I have had a deep fascination with ancient Egypt, as well as some other ancient Middle Eastern civilizations, for as long as I can remember discovered belly dancers featured in some old movies and thought that they were so mesmerizing and mystical was into my late teens I met a dancer and started going with her to her gigs, absorbing as much as I could. Shortly there after she had me perform and I have been going ever since then. Fetish is such a huge topic. I think that when a lot of people think of "fetish", they are imagining the stereotypical BD/SM scenarios, or they are envisioning latex-clad models. There is virtually a fetish for everything, so I can see how some people may have a fetish for women's stomachs or hips, which are greatly accentuated in a bedlah (belly dance costume) while the dance. This also goes back to when I was very little and I used to see some of the old films that my parents would watch. g up I always thought that stripping was very enticing, but I was always too shy and too self-conscious to ever try it. I was then watching one of HBO's "Real Sex" episodes and they had a segment on Neo-Burlesque. I made my mind up at that instant that I would go on to perform burlesque one day. A few years ago Bill Morton of Wasabassco Burlesque contacted me to perform at one of their burlesque events and it's been a go ever since. I started out performing belly dance acts with my snakes, but now I have moved on to burlesque acts. I have to start off saying that the burlesque crowds, as well as performers, are much more accepting and much warmer than the belly dance crowds and performers. I prefer performing at burlesque events despite the fact that belly dance gigs pay a lot better. Besides the occasional elderly gentlemen trying to cop a feel, I haven't had too many outrageous experiences happen...yet! I would say that dancing certainly helps with the modeling had almost every photographer compliment me on easy I am to work with because they don't need t tell me how to pose or what to do next. There are some things that I readily enjoy such as blood play, hot wax, and bondage It really depends on the mood that I am in at the particular moment in time. I used to draw when I was younger, but I don't seem to have the time for it anymore. I design most of my costumes, which is exciting as well as incredibly frustrating at times. There are so many to list. For music I love opera, old time jazz, horror punk, some black metal, 80's hair metal, synth pop , goth, some EMB and industrial, "darker" rock , classical, ragtime........ Some of my favorite artists: Misfits, Blitzkid, The Other, L.A.Guns, RATT, Motely, Cinderella, Faster Pussycat., The 69 Eyes, Crowhead, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Type O Negative, Wednesday 13, Murderdolls, Marilyn Manson, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, The Human League, Duran Duran, The Cure, Bauhaus, Peter Murphy, SPF 1000, London After Midnight, Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim, Skinny Puppy, Corvus Corax, Louis Armstrong...... As for movies, horror (especially paranormal based stuff), sci-fi, psychological thrillers and dramas ...and ANYTHING with Johnny Depp or Vincent Price.
