Interview With Lola Pops

by Cary

Lola Pops, The Pinup and Burlesque Model with a name that sounds like a cereal! :)

Classic pinup has become a huge phenomena lately, what about it first captured your interest?

When I was little my Mum always had pictures of Marilyn Monroe around the house, I remember looking at them and wanting to be like her when I grew up.

What do you think about pinup becoming part of the mainstream culture?

I think it's fantastic, I love the fact that so many girls are swapping their jeans and trainers for seemed stockings and victory rolls! People like Dita Von Teese & Katy Perry are influencing high street fashion, making it more affordable to actually achieve the look.

What is it that excites you about pinup modeling?

In a way I guess it's a way of living my childhood dream! I love to recreate classic pictures and add my own little twist.

Are there any other creative mediums you work in?

I am also a burlesque performer, it was my interest in pin-up that lead to my interest in burlesque. I perform around the UK with a mixture of classical & neo-burlesque. It's a lot of fun and I have love having such a creative outlet!

What are your favorite types of outfits to model in?

I love to model in my burlesque costumes, most of them I design &/or make myself so I like to get the most out of them!

What are your least favorites?

The majority of my shoots so far I have done the styling myself. Corsets can be quite uncomfortable after a few hours but I have yet to come across anything I haven't enjoyed wearing.

What kind of music do you like?

I'll listen to pretty much anything from James Brown to Machine Head, I used to be really into grunge & nu-metal as a teen but as I've grown up my taste has become a lot more eclectic.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love watching burlesque shows, most of the time if I'm performing I'm backstage and miss most of the action so it's a real to be in the audience every once in a while.
