Interview With Lola Babalon

by Cary

Lola Babalon is a gorgeous Fetish Model and Pro Domme. If this is what Babylon is like, I don't mind at all!

How did you become interested in fetish/BDSM?

I'd say that some of the aesthetic attraction dates back to certain designers I remember from when I was a girl, like Azzedine Alaia and later, Alexander McQueen. So much of it was lingerie and s&m inspired, and the stilettos were killer! But mostly, I'd say it's from the goth/industrial club scene. I started going to those about 13 years ago, and there was always a crossover that was apparent to me. It's where I witnessed my first play scenes, and I remember being intrigued, and spending a lot of time experimenting after that!

And how did you transition from an interest to it being a profession?

Well, I began modeling for some fetish and bdsm websites in 2003, after starting off as more of an art model. As I learned the ropes (literally, and figuratively!) I became more adventurous in my personal life. At the same time, I was realizing that I'm not cut out to sit behind a desk, and I managed to put 2 + 2 together and decide that I should try my hand at it professionally. Since I've been modeling and working as a Pro Domme, I've been able to travel worldwide and pursue outside interests, like journalism.

What can someone seeing you as a Pro Domme for the first time expect?

Well, I'd say to expect the unexpected - but that's what you'd expect me to say! I'm very in to the psychology of fetish, so I enjoy picking peoples' brains and finding out what makes them tick... and then exploiting it. ;)

What fetishes do you personally enjoy?

I adore medical play, mummification, needle play, sensory deprivation, forced feminization, cross dressing, and kidnapping and abandonment scenes. I like anything a bit out of the ordinary, or something that I haven't necessarily done before.

What excites you about fetish modeling?

I have been blessed to work with some amazing photographers, like Joi Carey, Peter Diablow and Chris Morley, and models like Amarantha LaBlanche, Jury Noir, RubberDoll, and more... And I must be honest, I'm definitely an exhibitionist and I love knowing that when I'm old and grey, I'll be able to look back on my youth!

What are your favorite types of outfits to model in?

Well, of course I adore latex and corsets, but I like to incorporate some of my own styles in to things. I don't want to wear the same outfit that you're going to see everywhere. I love ridiculous 9 inch heels and ballet boots, the kinds of things I wouldn't necessarily wear out dancing at the club.

What are your least favorites?

Chaps! I hate them. I've also worn some leather that I didn't care for, not because I'm Vegan, but because unless it's custom-fit it usually doesn't hug the curves correctly. I also don't like feeling too "costume-y", I don't think it comes across as entirely natural.

What advice would you have for someone just staring out in the fetish scene?

Research! There are amazing resources available on the internet, and many forums you can ask any question you can dream of. Collarme.com has an area where you can ask Mistresses questions. Also, be courteous. No one wants to be followed around at a club or event! Also, a personal pet peeve of mine are unsolicited x-rated messages and emails. If I don't know you, don't send me messages full of your fantasies starring me. It's creepy! Just because this is an "alternative" lifestyle it doesn't mean you can do away with common courtesy. Introduce yourself, start a dialog. Don't just throw all your dirty thoughts on the table and expect me to respond to you, because I won't, period.

Do you think fetish is becoming part of the mainstream culture?

I think that it's definitely becoming more accepted, as are most things that used to be "underground" seem to be. I think the internet has a lot to do with it - knowing that you're not alone in a fetish tends to take away some of the urge to be secretive about it. No matter what you're in to, there's a website for it, I think. And probably a forum! But I don't know if I'd say that it's becoming a part of mainstream culture - people might be able to appreciate the aesthetic value of something like latex or corsetry, but I doubt the number of true fetishists is on the rise.

What kind of music do you like?

This is one of those questions that I could answer forever! I am very interested in industrial, ebm, terror ebm, electronic, synthpop, metal, 80's, new wave, rap, and electro. But I also listen to pop and folk and 70's, so I'd say my musical tastes are very diverse. Most of my friends are in bands, so music is a huge part of my world. Everyone should take a moment to check out these bands, they're incredibly talented and provide the soundtrack to a lot of my adventures!

What do you like to do for fun?

I love to read, and I'm also a writer. I go out dancing, I go to concerts, I travel. I've gotten to see more of the world than I ever dreamed through modeling and performing, and I hope to see even more of it in the future! I also write for ReGen Magazine, covering gothic/industrial news and interviews. I love thrift stores, used book stores, and museums. Additionally, I'm involved in esoteric studies, so that takes up some of my free time as well.
