Interview With Lilly Holiday
by Cary
Classic pinup has become a huge phenomena lately, what about it first captured your interest?
As a little girl the TV was my baby sitter really and old movies always just looked prettier, the Ladies where lovely and the men folk were... well mannish. My very first feeling of arousal was scene in Gone with the Wind when Rett Butler carrying Scarlett up the stairs to have his up with her after threatening to "smash your head like a a walnut..." Sexy...
Now I look at that and think "wow I've always been this way haven't I?"
But I remembered thinking if I could just look like that, red or pink pouty lips, big dramatic eyes, flushed cheeks, covered in fur and dripping with jewels. If only I could look like all those devil may care ladies. I never thought that I could until I went to beauty school and a big part of learning how to do hair is learning older hair styles. And when I started dancing I was always doing my hair and make-up but my look really evolved when I had a friend that worked at MAC, she taught me all the little tricks.
I try to go for my own look as opposed to recreate something that's been done a million times before. But I'm just like everyone else that loves classic pin-up, for us, we don't think about the times it made in it's another form of escapism I think people like pin-ups the same was other people might like those god awful fantasy Calenders (we've all seen them, some half naked girl riding a dragon or spearing a dark wizard...ect)
What do you think about pinup becoming part of the mainstream culture?
There are so many things that people consider pin-up that are so mainstream to begin with and other things that will never be mainstream. If we're taking about pin-up/fetish, I think that that has a great deal to do with that there is a more open dialog about sex in general in our culture. 15 years ago you wouldn't have seen a Oliva calender with Betty Page littering it's pages at the local Barns and Noble, things have changed. Sex is longer the enemy.
Which is a good thing, I think the more open we become as humans the less shame we have about our own sexuality. In turn we're free to become what ever we're meant to become. Too offend people live their lives by someone else's rules. What not to wear, how to act, what your turn ons are suppose to be..... it's all just so silly. It's a whole lot of trying to put a bunch of round pegs in to square holes and I'll have nothing to do with it.
What is it that excites you about pinup modeling?
It's exciting to think that one day I'm going to be able to show my kids some of my (tamer) pictures and let them know that, yes I have always been this crazy. That and I was a bit of an awkward kid growing up, my welcome to the doll house faze lasted from 8 until I was about 22 years old. So I have this really weird ugly image of myself in my head and people actually wanting me to model for them and seeing the pictures that come out of it is really helping me be more comfortable in my own skin. It's a confidence boost that is WAY cheaper than fake boobs!
Are there any other creative mediums you work in?
I paint and draw cool stuff and sexy ladies. I've shown my work in a couple of galleries and I'm really proud of that.
What are your favorite types of outfits to model in?
Tutus!
What are your least favorites?
The full corset dress also known as a wedel dress.
What kind of music do you like?
The good kind!
What do you like to do for fun?
Watch movies, dance, go to drag shows, drink cheap wine, dress funny.
