Interview With Fanny Devine

Classic pinup has become a huge phenomena lately, what about it first captured your interest?
I love the subtle/ innocent sexuality that pinup photography portrays. When I see pinup photography I feel like I'm almost spying on someone through a keyhole! You see a part of the models personality and life in the pictures. I'm also drawn to pinup as it's a snapshot of a more innocent and glamorous bygone era.
What do you think about pinup becoming part of the mainstream culture?
I think it's a good thing as long as it is becoming a part of mainstream in it's entirety rather than just the style. What I mean by this is that people have the same ideal's behind pinup. In my opinion it can only be a positive thing if more people can appreciate the curvy female form, the innate sexuality of a woman smiling and enjoying herself and a "less is more" type ideology.
What is it that excites you about pinup modeling?
It's really expressive, fun and full of life! And I feel like the end result really reflects who I am as a person and performer.
Are there any other creative mediums you work in?
I'm a neo-burlesque performer. I like to blend sparkly glamour with comedy in my acts! I've been performing regularly around the UK for 2 years now. I'm also a promoter of cabaret/burlesque events - Carnival Divine.
What are your favorite types of outfits to model in?
If I had the budget, I would model in rubber...all the time! But as that is not the case (and I mainly use my own wardrobe) then I would say corsets and lingerie. You can get some really fantastic shapes and poses when modeling corsets as they really accentuate the human form and make you feel really glamorous and sexy while modeling. And of course this is really important as it's all about enjoying it and playing up to the camera - so it helps if you feel the part.
What are your least favorites?
I don't think I have any least favourite outfits - yet! As, like I've said, most of the outfits I do photoshoots in are my own.
What kind of music do you like?
I like a real mix of rockabilly, psychobilly, 50's, rock and metal!
What do you like to do for fun?
As I've already mentioned I'm a burlesque performer so a lot of my spare time is spent either performing or preparing for performances by customizing costumes, rhinestoning corsets and making bizarre props like giant balls of wool and gravestones!!
I'm very into my music and love going to gigs and festivals. I also love going for a good girly night out with cider, vodka and dancing!!
