Interview With Evie Lovelle
by Cary
Classic pinup has become a huge phenomena lately, what about it first captured your interest?
I have always been extremely pale with dark hair and one of the deepest widows peaks since the Munsters. What to do with such features? Find their natural habitat of course! And so the search began through loads of vintage ephemera, etiquette and sewing books, girlie mags and hair tutorials. I was a born pinup! Everything had its correction, its highlight and compatible shoes. By following the classic instructions, and being honest with herself, any girl could put her best foot forward!
What do you think about pinup becoming part of the mainstream culture?
It’s a pretty art form that is fairly universally flattering. I enjoy looking at the beautiful photographs and meeting all of the lovely ladies who take them, so, I think it’s amazing!
What is it that excites you about pinup modeling?
The costuming and the challenge of the story. If you look at the old illustrations, many of them are surrounded by an action set of some kind. It’s a fun challenge to bring that out in a photo shoot and still focus on your shape and smile! I have had the pleasure of working with Gina Gattina of www.pin-up-party.com recently. I had so much fun! She is a fantastic photographer and has wonderful art direction. I have also been lucky enough to work with Robert Alvarado. I really admire his photographic technique and he has a great sense of humor! I like the elaborate sets and the work of 666photography, and someday hope to have the opportunity of working with them.
Are there any other creative mediums you work in?
I am a Burlesque dancer and winner of this year’s Most Classic Award at Miss Exotic World. It was an incredible experience!
I am also fortunate enough to be the assistant to Catherine D’Lish (www.cdlish.com). With that huge responsibility comes the obvious love of costume making. Rhinestones and tedium go hand in hand! Patience is so much more than a virtue.
What are your favorite types of outfits to model in?
At present I favor: 1) designs by Catherine D’Lish 2)custom corsets by Meschantes.com 3) vintage lingerie from my collection
What are your least favorites?
Anything ill fitting! If you’re not comfortable, it shows.
What kind of music do you like?
Well, I really, really adore music with a gypsy influence. A Hawk and Hacksaw is the most played artist on my ipod, followed by Devotchka. I also like layered electronic music, especially Mum.
What do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy being on tour. If only there was a way to tour year round! I have been traveling quite a bit this year with Tease-O-Rama, Exotic World and BurlyCon in Seattle. The burlesque community is an amazing one. Filled with wonderful, smart and good-looking people. Who wouldn’t want that to be all the time?
Besides Burlesque travel, I like to: practice, hunt clothing, watch movies, walk (sometimes on beat) and wear copious amounts of cat hair.
