Interview With Dragata
by Cary
How did you become interested in fetish/BDSM?
I have always been attracted to extreme and extravagant fashion. Even as a
little girl when I played with costumes, I liked adding my own edge to
them. Over time, I developed an infatuation with any realm devoid of
light. Fetish fashion hints at the forbidden and the taboo. It has
unlimited potential to arouse, inspire, evoke dark fantasies. I like
pushing the envelope.
Do you enjoy fetishism/BDSM play in your personal life, and if so what are
you into?
I have a fabric fetish -- the smoothness of silks and latex, the elegance
of velvet, the femininity of lace. To me, it's a palpable darkness. I
find fetish fashion perversely attractive. It reflects my preferred
aesthetic and offers an intriguing menus of visual and sensual
possibilities.
Are there any fetishes that you don't find appealing?
Many. Fetish fashion is meant to evoke eroticism, but when one crosses a
line and engages in activity that sabotages health or personal morality or
affects hygiene, that becomes distinctly unattractive.
What excites you about fetish modeling?
Wearing provocative and exotic clothing is fun and sexy. I suppose it's
also an expression of my inner artist.
What are your favorite types of outfits to model in?
I like a broad range of styles, textures and colors. My outfits can vary
from the bare minimum to elaborate ensembles.
What are your least favorites?
I don’t wear anything I don’t like. What I find least appealing is
suffocating myself in a gas mask.
Do you think pinup and fetish are becoming part of the mainstream culture?
There is an increasing interest in fetishism and I definitely notice it
getting adapted into mainstream apparel. Unfortunately, when
fetish-inspired looks are produced for mass consumption, they're usually
poor, watered-down attempts -- little more than meager reproductions of a
richer, authentic scene.
What kind of music do you like?
I'm mainly attracted to music that's atmospheric with dark and decadent
themes. I love metal, goth, industrial, classical, as well as 80s and
arabesque. I also like discovering the new and original.
What do you like to do for fun?
To me, nothing is more enjoyable than indulging my passions for designing,
styling and directing photo shoots with the added pleasure of good music
and a bottle of red wine. The wine and music are active participants in
the creative process!
I am primarily a stylist/designer, currently in collaboration on a book of
fantasy photography. I hope to see the project through to completion
before the end of the year.
