Interview With Deanna Danger by Cary Deanna Danger: Fetish, pinup, & alt model/ Dancer extraordinaire. How did you become interested in fetish/BDSM? I’m not exactly sure whereabouts it really kicked in, but I can pinpoint the interest to 2 different times in my life. The first being when I was a kid, I was a dancer (ballet, tap, jazz, the whole shebang). I can remember a dance recital when I was REALLY really young, seeing the older dancers getting ready in their costumes, and they were wearing fishnets! And I just remember being utterly fascinated by them. Just thinking “Wow! There’s something really special about that.” And it wasn’t till I was in college, when I discovered Bettie Page, that I really figured out what those fishnets were all about. And Bettie was the 2nd influence on my interest in fetish/BDSM. Seeing all those pictures of her with the whips, and spanking other models all the while in the most beautiful lingerie, it really turned me on!
Do you enjoy fetishism/BDSM play in your personal life, and if so what are you into? I do! There’s all kinds of things. I’ve kind of run the whole gamut, experimenting and whatnot. But, I’ve recently found the love of my life and there are definitely things that we are both drawn too. I love wearing lingerie, fishnets, heels, and super cute panties. There’s role-playing, interesting locations, props (think cuffs, restraints, etc), but most notably, I enjoy being the submissive. I had a wonderful gay friend tell me once that his taste in men was “ones that are strong enough to pick you up and throw you across the room,” when I heard that, I was like “YES!” give me a manly man! Haha…our neighbors probably get an earful if they’re outside at the wrong time!
Are there any fetishes that you don't find appealing? Absolutely. I work at a porn store, and we have our DVDs organized into categories. You can definitely see me making the stink face when I have to put out the granny porn or the fat porn. Nothing person if that’s your thing, but it just kind of grosses me out. I don’t find anything sexy about that.
What excites you about fetish modeling? The clothing. I love playing dress up. And I love the strength, and power, and sexuality that comes through when I wear fetish attire. I like looking at myself in the photos afterward and going, “Wow! I look gorgeous AND like I could kick your ass!” Haha.
Classic pinup has become a huge phenomena lately, what about it first captured your interest? I would have to say, Bettie Page again on this one. She was truly an eye opening, awakening experience in my life (I was pretty sheltered as a child). I saw her, and all the pinups that followed, and it just sort of hit home. There’s just such a genuine beauty about pinup/cheesecake that’s innocent yet sensual at the same time. And I absolutely love the nostalgia about it. So much so, that I got seamline tattoos to both permanently affix myself into a “pinup,” as well as pay homage to the pinups of WWII who drew them on their legs because nylons were so expensive, and considered a luxury.
What is it that excites you about pinup modeling? Again, the clothes! I love playing dress up. If I had the time and money, I’d dress that way every day of my life (like another of my idols, Miss Dita VonTeese).
What are your favorite types of outfits to model in? My favorite types of outfits to model in are all about textures. Fishnet, lace, PVC, latex, satin. I also love sky-high heels, and costumes. It’s all about the fantasy of it for me when it comes to modeling. The more I’m allowed to get into a character, the better (I’ve acted for much of my life too!)
What are your least favorites? Well, I don’t really have any least favorites because I don’t model in something I don’t want to model in! You’ll never find me wearing anything that came from Abercrombie & Fitch, or JC Penny. It’s just no me (and no where NEAR me)!
Do you think pinup and fetish are becoming part of the mainstream culture? I do, absolutely. I think fetish has been around longer in mainstream culture. I’ve seen it for YEARS in high fashion/ glamour modeling. I think the dark mystique is what is appealing about it toward mainstream, not necessarily the actual ‘fetish content.’ Pinup I’ve seen taking hold over the last decade. You’ll find pinup-ish dresses and pants on the racks of urban mall boutiques, and hell, even America’s Next Top Model do pinup shoots at least once a season!
What kind of music do you like? Oh gosh…that’s a loaded question! There isn’t a genre I don’t like. I’m kind of a music snob. I’ve been working in record stores for the last 9 years, and I’ve had my fair share of trends. But really, I can find something appealing about every type of music, as long as it’s GOOD! Some people say, “I don’t like country,” well I think that’s bullocks! Hello…Johnny Cash? Patsy Cline? You’d never find me listening to top country radio, because it’s terrible music! But, the genre’s I listen to most frequently are classic rock, garage rock, old school punk, hip hop, glam rock, old soul, doo-wop, and 80’s new wave. I’m a music lover, you give me a tune, and I’ll dance to it!
What do you like to do for fun? Dance! I absolutely love dancing. If I don’t get to dance for a week, I start getting antsy and need to move! I also love cooking, gardening, making crafty things like hats and costumes, listening to records, and going to concerts. And I love just spending time with my sweetie, there’s really not enough time in the week for that!
