Interview With Bonita La Belle

by Cary

Bonita La Belle brings a fun attitude to Pinup Modeling.

Classic pinup has become a huge phenomena lately, what about it first captured your interest?

As a kid I would watch the “Cine de Oro” (Classic Mexican movies) with my parents and thinking the girls were so beautiful and yet very “real” looking. At the time I was not aware that there was such a thing as a ‘pinup’ until I saw my first picture of Bettie Page. I remember seeing pictures of her as kid and thinking she was just like those women from the movies I used to watch. Then I saw a documentary on her and other famous pinups and from then on I was hooked!

What do you think about pinup becoming part of the mainstream culture?

I think it’s great, as long as its not completely exploited and being kept fun. I think what people have to remember is that pinups were originally informal models put on display by soldiers during WWII for comfort. That’s what pinups were meant for, consolation and entertainment.

What is it that excites you about pinup modeling?

What excites me about pinup modeling is the freedom to be cheesy and sexy at the same time. It’s an oddball combination that just seems to work. It’s also not super serious, which I believe fits my personality tremendously.

Are there any other creative mediums you work in?

I am also a burlesque performer and ring girl for Lucha VaVoom.

What are your favorite types of outfits to model in?

I love any outfits that make me feel beautiful and sexy.

What are your least favorites?

Anything uncomfortable.

What kind of music do you like?

I am all over the place when it comes to music. My all time favorite band is The Doors. I dig all kinds of stuff, Nirvana, Ruth Brown, Hole, Ritchie Valens, Bikini Kill, Wanda Jackson, 2 Live Crew, Vicente Fernandez, Juan Gabriel, Rancid… oh geez I could on forever.

What do you like to do for fun?

I think it is safe to say I am a homebody. I love to just relax with my husband or good friends/family and watch movies, TV and just laugh. It doesn’t take much to keep me entertained.
