Interview With Baby Le'Strange by Cary A glimps into the world of Burlesque Performer Baby Le'Strange. Classic pinup has become a huge phenomena lately, what about it first captured your interest? I love the look of the ladies of the 60s and 70s. The rockers of the glam rock era are pin ups in themselves with their elaborate costumes and make-up. I much appreciate the the stylings up to these eras I just feel more comfortable with giant back combed hair and cat eyeliner! I perform Burlesque and I love bringing different vintage looks into each act. Whether it be a voodoo lady, 70s rollergirl, glam rock gal, 60s Batgirl, I love to present a different look and a different woman to the audience with each act.
What do you think about pinup becoming part of the mainstream culture? I think it is incredible!! I love the throwback look. In Portland there are many ladies that don't go out without their face on. It makes me happy to see them all dolled up walking around the grocery store among the rest of us.
What is it that excites you about pinup modeling? The hair and makeup of course. The fact that modeling and burlesque go hand in hand. I've definitely performed more than I have modeled. Although I LOVE to have my picture taken on stage while performing! I'm also really into live modeling. I have modeled here in Portland and in my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA for Dr. Sketchys. I love the idea that I get to wear my costumes and have people draw me. It is so rewarding to see the images that the artists draw and how they capture your spirit.
Are there any other creative mediums you work in?
I perform burlesque and create most of my costumes and my routines. Performing is such a great rush.
What kind of music do you like? Wow, I'm really into the band RTX. The singer Jennifer Herema is my favorite front woman of all time. I'm also listening to a lot of different stuff with my acts, such as T-rex, Sol Hoopie, Dollyrots, Ween, April March. I like a whole range of stuff as long as it rocks, in some way
What do you like to do for fun? Make costumes, perform burlesque, travel. In 2009 I really want to travel and perform more. I'm based in Portland,OR and I have performed in Seattle and I really want to go and perform on the East Coast, California and Canada!
