Interview With Annika

What music first captured your ear and got you interested in music?
When I was little there was always must playing in the house, of all
kinds of genres. My mom and grandparents always played a lot of
classical because I guess they wanted me to be "cultured," but there
was inevitably 80s dance music and old school rap, since that's what
was popular among my mom and her brothers' generation. This definitely
influenced my present day taste in music - I have a major weakness for
New Order, Dead or Alive, Depeche Mode, that kind of retro stuff.
Being exposed to so many different kinds of music also gave me a
strong foundation in terms of comprehending music, which, I believe,
helped give me the ability to pursue it.
Do you come from a background of training in the arts?
Yes - I started playing the violin when I was five, eventually
switched to the viola (which is very similar) and it's been an
important artistic outlet ever since. I was also very serious about
ballet for many years and for a while I wanted to make a profession
out of it - alas, that dream never came true.
How did you become interested in fetish/BDSM?
First off, it interests me from a psychological standpoint. There are
so many seemingly insignificant experiences that can shape a person
sexually, and the fact that it can give a person this whole
pleasure/control complex with pain and domination is really quite
amazing. Also, I can personally relate to certain aspects of it.
Obviously that adds to my interest.
Do you enjoy fetishism/BDSM play in your personal life, and if so what
are you into?
Mmmmmmmperhaps...
Yeah, I have a bit of masochistic sub in me...I enjoy a bit of light
domination: handcuffing, blindfolding, candle wax, spanking....nothing
too intense or degrading though.
Are there any fetishes that you don't find appealing?
Probably...there are as many fetishes as there are people, and I'm
sure many of them are revolting.
Off the top of my head, anything involving shit is totally gross to
me....I believe there are also people who enjoy drinking blood...that
also does not appeal to me.
What excites you about fetish modeling?
I honestly don't do that much modeling that specifically caters to
fetish, but my style tends to tilt in a dominatrixy direction. It
feels empowering to me. It's a way that a woman can be perceived as
beautiful and sexual without being a victim.
What are your favorite types of outfits to model in?
Black lingerie, lace, fishnets, classic early 20th century burlesque
types of garments. Always embellished with silver shiny things.
What are your least favorites?
I would imagine any kind of sportswear...it's pretty fuckin
ugly...I've never had to do that though. Anything unflattering to my
figure would fall under this category as well - for instance, anything
too flowy and loose. I'm not a pilates-addicted vegan so that I can
cover up my body. It sounds conceited, but it's just the truth. Oh,
and fur...anything that was obviously once a cute animal.
Do you think pinup and fetish are becoming part of the mainstream culture?
Gradually, yes. They've been known to the mainstream since the sexual
revolution because of models like Bettie Page, but I think we're
starting to see more fetish archetypes appearing in pop culture. For
instance in stupid movies like "Eurotrip" where the guy walks into a
BDSM bar in Amsterdam by accident. Or in Sex in the City when
Charlotte gets lots of free shoes from a guy with a foot fetish. I
think this indicates that fetish causes less shock to mainstream
people than it used to - definitely a sign of progress. Pinup is a
little different - I think it's always been universally considered
sexy, but different scenes have run off with it and created their own
versions of "pin up" that are completely different from classic Dita
von Teese types of photographs. Photographs of blonde playboy bunnies
can be labeled pin-up, which is disappointing to me.
What do you like to do for fun?
I like going to concerts, underground parties, free yoga on St. Marks,
indie films and such. Like most girls in big materialistic cities, I
love to shop....especially at small little boutiques no one else has
heard of. I'm also a big enthusiast of sitting on my ass, lounging,
watching dumb shit on Hulu, and writing in my journal.
