Interview With Anna Fur Laxis

by Cary

Ana Fur Laxis will put you in shock! :)

Classic pinup has become a huge phenomena lately, what about it first captured your interest?

It was seeing pictures of Bettie Page that first sparked my interest. She has been a huge influence and remains so. Her work captured such a wonderful, playful, innocent energy and it's that energy that I aspire to.

What do you think about pinup becoming part of the mainstream culture?

Pin-up has such a great aesthetic. It's attractive because it's fun and non-threatening, and it's accessible to lots of different types of people.

What is it that excites you about pinup modeling?

I like wearing pretty clothes and accessories and pulling faces, so it's pretty much the perfect job for me!

Are there any other creative mediums you work in?

I have worked as a knitting designer, but these days I keep the knitting just for fun. As well as pin up modeling, I am also a Burlesque Performer. I have performed across the UK, Milan, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas. Performance is a wonderful creative outlet and allows me to animate the pictures that I love. My performance style is a mixture of British comedy storytelling, heavily influenced by classic American glitz, with a hearty pinch of the ridiculous. I make a lot of my own costume pieces and gain a great deal of satisfaction from making a costume idea come to life.

What are your favorite types of outfits to model in?

I love that I get to model a variety of outfits - from form-fitting latex through 50s style dresses and burlesque costumes, to hats and accessories. Each type of outfit has it's own particular challenge in terms of making the clothing look good, meeting the brief of the client and bringing my own style to the pictures.

My favourite recent shoots have been for some beautiful Boobie Trap Corsets (www.boobietrapcorsets.com), Vivien of Holloway clothing (www.vivienofholloway.com) and hats by Sakura Designs (www.sakuradesigns.co.uk). I'm also very excited about upcoming projects working with more latex, corsetry and accessories!

What are your least favorites?

I try to have fun and be creative with whatever outfit I'm modeling, but long shoots in pony boots are a little painful!

What kind of music do you like?

I like Garage, Freakbeat, Prog, 80s Synth, a bit of Lounge, Kenny Rodgers...you know - the usual.

What do you like to do for fun?

I'm a total geek. Being a Performer means that I spend a lot of time in bars and clubs, so for fun I like to knit, watch my favourite nerdy TV programmes or relax with bar of chocolate and a good book. Preferably one with tales of adventure on the high seas in a bygone era!
