Interview With Adhesion Effect Photography

Your eyes will be glued to the work of Adhesion Effect Photography! :)

What inspired you to pick up a camera?

I was always stealing the family camera as a child to run around taking photos of stuff that caught my eye, and when the opportunity arose for me to take a class in high school I was hooked. My admiration of diverse styles of photography and photographers like Cindy Sherman, Julian Mandel and Jerry Ulesmann inspire me to think outside the box.

What particular challenges do you face with erotic photography as opposed to other genres?

For me, it's walking the fine line between art and gratuitous sexuality. I want my images to be to be creative, artistic and tell a story, not just be eye candy.

Do you prefer to shoot with film or digital?

At this point I prefer digital over film. It's faster, and you can adjust as you shoot.

How did you become interested in fetish/BDSM?

I was mostly introduced to the world of fetish photography through DC photographer Larry Bradby and was impressed by the diversity and professionalism of the models. As an artistic-minded photographer myself, it's easier to find models in this field who are open to new ideas, concepts and creative experimentation.

Do you think pinup and fetish are becoming part of the mainstream culture?

Yes I do. It's especially obvious in the fashion world. Today you can buy pinup and fetish style clothing in mainstream stores and see them on celebrities everywhere. I've even noticed fashion industry magazines featuring photo spreads with an obvious fetish look.

Are there any other creative mediums you work in?

Yes, I work a lot with photoshop and other computerized design programs to create digital art collages. Many of my photographs end up used in these, and some shoots I do are specifically designed for this purpose.

What kind of music do you like?

I'm pretty much an "if I like it I listen to it" type, so my musical taste is extremely eclectic. If I have to pin it down, I'd say there's more rock and punk in my collection.

What do you like to do for fun?

I have actually been photographing professional wrestling as a hobby for over ten years now. It's a very different and fast-paced environment to shoot in than the studio, the challenge being to capture moments in the midst of chaos that tell a story.
